Adventurous Southern Iceland Elopement // Iceland Destination Elopement Photographer
Casie & Shayne's romantic elopement in Southern Iceland
We couldn't have imaged a better way to end 2017. Christmas was spent exchanging gifts of books and chocolates (an Icelandic tradition) in a cozy apartment in Reykjavik after photographing Casie and Shayne's Iceland adventure elopement and exploring southern Iceland with them. They chose to have their elopement ceremony, just the two of them, in Hvalsneskirkja Church in Sandgerdi, the western part of Reykjanes Peninsula. The church was built in 1887 with carved basalt stone exterior walls and driftwood from the nearby shore was used for the interior. The ceremony was an amazingly unique experience with the priest performing parts of it in Icelandic.
After the ceremony we made our way down the coast of Reykjanes Peninsula where we climbed around on giant black rocks watching the strong waves crash against the cliffs. At that time of year Iceland was only getting about 4 hours of daylight so we quickly ran out of light and met up the next day to continue the adventure. Starting with snuggles under the massive waterfall, Skogafoss, then making our way east we stopped off to explore Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach and Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon along the way. At our final destination Shayne and Casie shared their first dance as husband and wife on a black sand beach with the slow sunset glowing on jagged snowy mountains towering behind them.
